Rebecca Hardin Joins Jazz Foundation Board

Santa Barbara, Calif., June 1, 2009 -- Rebecca Hardin has joined the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation (SBVJF). She is founder and president of Open Line Public Relations; based in Santa Barbara since 1986, Open Line serves clients locally and throughout California and the Southwest.

The Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation (SBVJF) is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing vocal jazz education to schoolchildren. VocalPoint, a vocal jazz ensemble, is the Foundation’s performing arm.

“Attending a VocalPoint benefit concert introduced me to SBVJF, and I applaud their contribution to our schools—particularly now, as we see more cutbacks to all enrichment programs,” said Hardin. “Music played an important and beneficial role in my education and I hope to bring that perspective to my work on the SBVJF Board.”

The Foundation has presented VocalPoint jazz harmony since 1999, reaching more than 23,000 school children in the Santa Barbara area. The SBVJF has taught 26 vocal jazz workshops in local elementary and junior high schools since 2003.  The most recent addition to the SBVJF curriculum is the residency program “Journey through Jazz,” geared to 4th, 5th & 6th grade students.  The SBVJF partners with other nonprofit organizations to advance music education in our schools, particularly the art of vocal jazz harmony.
