Vocal Jazz Foundation Plans Annual Benefit Concert
Santa Barbara, Calif., October 6–VocalPoint, the performing arm of the Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation (SBVJF), stages its annual benefit concert Saturday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Marjorie Luke Theater, 721 East Cota Street, at the Santa Barbara Junior High campus. Celebrating the Foundation’s 10th anniversary in high style, VocalPoint’s concert embodies the SBVJF mission while showcasing guest artists who epitomize our city’s musical riches.
“We bring vocal jazz education to our schools, and we’re excited about sharing that experience in concert,” said VocalPoint musical director Kim Collins. “Not to be missed are top notch offerings by our Special Guest artists—and proceeds help the Foundation sustain its workshop programs.”
General admission tickets to the November 7 concert are $15; preferred seating is $30 per ticket. SBVJF also invites advertising and sponsorships. For tickets, program ads or sponsorships, please call 805-729-2627 or email sbvocaljazzfoundation@cox.net.
Special Guest artists include: Peter Clark, Cut Time, Chelsea Chaves, Jacob Elliott & Friends, Jim Tamborello on horns with the VIP Combo, and of course VocalPoint’s right (and left) hand piano maestro Debbie Denke. “For families seeking an enjoyable, memorable evening with the kids, our concert is ideal,” said Melissa Brooks, executive director of SBVJF and VocalPoint performer. “Aficionados of Santa Barbara’s vibrant jazz scene will also want to be here!”
The Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation (SBVJF) is dedicated to bringing vocal jazz education to schoolchildren. The SBVJF partners with other nonprofit organizations to advance music education in our schools, particularly the art of vocal jazz harmony.
VocalPoint, a vocal jazz ensemble, has presented jazz harmony programs to more than 32,000 school children in the Santa Barbara area. The SBVJF has taught 26 vocal jazz workshops in local elementary and junior high schools since 2003, with plans for the 2009-2010 school year that include a workshop series at Adams School in Santa Barbara.
The most recent addition to the SBVJF curriculum is the residency program “Journey through Jazz,” geared to 4th, 5th & 6th grade students. Please call 805-729-2627 to learn more about SBVJF and the annual concert, or visit www.sbvocaljazz.org.
